5 Ways to Balance Work and Fitness

Every effort to strike a balance work, life, fitness, and eating well feels impossible with limited hours in the day. Despite being aware of the fact that regular exercise and healthy eating habits can actually reduce stress, improve an individual’s energy levels and work-life balance, it always becomes the first thing to fall off. The following are some suggestions of experts on how to balance work and fitness routine.

Have an Alternative Plan

Sometimes your days may get foiled by a last-minute meeting, or one of your kids’ school teachers is calling because there is an emergency. Have some alternative ideas in your back pocket, almost like a secondary course of action that’s part of your plan.  Maybe it’s a more vigorous or longer walk with your dog. Maybe you can even take that work call while you are out walking. There are so many resources right at our fingertips. Not only can you use your phone as your scheduler and computer, but it can also suffice as a workout tool.  Find some great fitness YouTube channels, and get the workout done in the confines of your own home if you can’t make it to the gym or fitness studio. Grab that basketball and head out to shoot some hoops with your kids. If you’re open minded, and flexible, you can make anything a workout and that can easily balance last minute changes or scheduling conflicts.

Create a Workout Calendar

Once you know what time of day or between which activities you can fit in a gym session, start creating a workout calendar. Schedule in your exercise for the entire week on your calendar. You can even schedule in an entire month if you feel that it will be helpful. This will help you keep you on track of what time you are going to exercise, where and what type. Also, scheduling in your exercise in a planner or calendar can help you stick to your plan. If you do not have enough time or resources to join a gym, there are several home workout plans that are available through the internet. P90X and Insanity are two such highly popular programs which are based on a shorter duration for daily workout. Check out a comparison between P90X and Insanity to know which routine may suit your requirements.

Create a Healthy Lifestyle

Experts suggest sticking to a good nutrition plan and focusing on getting enough sleep on a regular basis is the key. Healthy living goes a long way and it helps to rejuvenate a weary body at the end of every hectic day. At the end of the day, everyone should be creative and prioritise exercise and a wellness routine to reduce stress levels. Give yourself time to find the most suitable exercise method and meal planning strategy which fit into your schedule. Remember that balancing work, life and wellness is about finding a plan that supports your lifestyle and should not leave you feeling guilty for skipping the gym that day.

Wherever Possible Make Cuts

Most people struggle with the busy schedule of their work. It happens to deprive them of finding time to take care of their fitness and health. It is important to make some cuts in work that will allow you to give time for workouts. It is not just about making cuts in the work but also in the daily schedule at home. For instance, you can ask yourself if you watch a lot of television. Maybe your mornings are slow or you spend quite a lot of time on phone. So you need to figure out ways to make essential cuts and in doing so you will be able to take some time out for workouts. You can also multitask and save some time for workouts in that way too.

Choose Something Over Nothing

You do not need an hour or even 30 minutes to get a complete, effective workout. And some exercises are virtually always better than none. Even five minutes workout can make a difference. We can always find a few free minutes in our day.  Short and speedy workouts can do wonders for both the body and mind. Squeeze in fitness wherever you are and no matter how much time you have with body weight exercise or with the help of apps with pre-programmed short workouts. You can even do some exercises at your office desk.

This is in no way an exhaustive list and you can include many other things. However these five important suggestions will definitely go a long way in helping you to create a balance between your work and fitness so that you do not lose out on either in any way.
