5 tips for staying healthy on the road

We dream about our ideal vacation all year long and nothing can ruin it more than getting sick on the road. It`s always a good idea to take some steps of precaution. Here is a list of 5 tips than can keep us healthy while traveling.

1. Always keep your hands clean
Pack hand cleaning wipes and use them often.  They can come in handy, especially if you use public transport.  Airports and bus stations don`t provide hand sanitizer stations so make sure you use them always before touching any kind of food. According to some sources some surfaces can be dirty as the bathroom floor.

2. Planning ahead is a good thing
Never leave your home without your basic first aid.  Always carry some medication like pain reliever, cold medicine, anti-diarrhea, antibiotic and some vitamins to keep you healthy and energized. If you plan to travel in some distant and more exotic country, make sure you check with your doctor for the necessary shots.

3. Make notes
If you have any specifics needs or some sort of medical condition, make sure your companions know about it.  Always carry the emergency number of your physician and your insurance card.

4. Don`t overdo it
Stay well hydrated on your travels but don`t drink or eat too much. Lack of sleep can weaken your body and make your immune system drop. This is especially important for those who fly oversees and suffer from jet leg. Keep things simple – eat less, drink less and sleep more.

5. Stay active
If you excise daily, don`t ruin your routine just because you are on a vacation or business trip. Many hotels have a fitness room so take advantage and do your thing. Sometimes just taking the stairs instead of the elevator and walking instead of driving is enough.
