This Back exercises isolates the trapezius muscles. It is like you are carrying two heavy travel bags on each hand. Barbell version of the exercise is also possible. Here is how to do it.
Grab two dumbbells in each hand or a barbell; position your feet in shoulder length and straighten your back. Bend the knees a little bit so the heaviness of the weights won’t put much pressure on your back. Now, to exercises the trapezius, just move the shoulders towards your ears. Stay in the shrugged position for few seconds, then lower down the arms to initial position. Don’t move your arms, elbows or something else. Just make a shrugging gesture with the dumbbells in your hands.
It is also important not to look down when doing this exercises, since it don’t target the muscles properly. Some people instead of shrugging prefer to make circles with shoulders; these repetitions are not effective as the shrugs.
